INCISORS: A NOVEL

Chris Moore’s memoir Incisors is a journey toward reclamation and repair of herself, her voice,
and her place in the world as a queer woman. Moore grew up in the redlined town of Pitman,
NJ, with an alcoholic father and an absent mother. An unusual bicycle accident at 13 sent her
on a trajectory of trauma as she searched for ways to feel accepted: friendships, church, toxic
relationships, endless bottles of wine, cross-country moves. It isn’t until she realizes that
wherever she goes, there she is, that she begins to realize that the only acceptance that will
satisfy her must come from within.
